Where is the sun?

I drive my teens to school every morning. It has become one of my favourite part of the day. Mornings used to be a highly stressful time, trying to get them all to wake up, but they have both matured and it is getting easier and easier for them to leave the house early.

Every morning, for 15 minutes we get to chat and pray. I get to nag at them, remind them about things they need to do, and teach them about life, but they also get to tell me things that interest them about school, computer games and planes.

It was Elias who drew my attention to the fact that we could not see the sun today. Every morning, we would face the sun in the direction of our drive. It was glaring sometimes but otherwise I do not notice it because my eyes will be on the roads. Yesterday we saw the sun. Again it was Elias who pointed it out to me. It was… milky… because of the haze, but today, we could not see it at all.

Haze for us in Singapore is a temporary (and it has become yearly) occurrence (and so we hope). But a time may come when it is permanent. It is the case for some people living in polluted cities, most of which are in India. I found an article about pollution in China too. “The midday sun hangs in the sky looking more like the moon”

Yesterday I shared my theory with the boys on the drive to school. Revelation in the Bible talks about the moon turning blood red and the sun being darkened. We have been seeing phenomenon of that due to the lunar eclipse, and many people (including myself, for a while) think that it means that Jesus is coming back soon. However, I recently heard a sermon that made me think that perhaps it will not be so soon. My theory is that the world is going to change, so much so that air quality will become so bad that the moon will be red all the time, due to pollution, and the sun will look like the moon…darkened. I don’t know how it can be as black as goat’s hair, but when it happens, I believe it will be natural and make perfect sense.

Maybe while we still have the sun (maybe tomorrow it will be a sunny day), we should take more pictures and videos of it. So that in future, when it disappears, our children’s children, and their children, and the children after them… will know that there is such a thing as the sun, and what is actually looks like.
